Disappointments are part of our daily life and may come in various forms. But when a child gets disappointed, he or she may not know how to well to react. Your response will help him/her to understand and be able to deal with such situations when you are not around.

To be able to fully appreciate your child and help him/her deal with frustration or any sort of other problem, you must be a friend of your child. He/she must be able to tell you how he/she feels without any hindrance. Let them know that no matter what happens you are there for them. This will make it easier for them to realize what you are saying and it will be easier for you to bring them out from any situation.

Also you need to listen to your child without commenting on their behavior towards their displeasures. This will help them calm down since they know someone is interested in what they feel is a very unfair incident. Even if you do not really understand what they are saying, be patient.

Try to help them by speaking to them kindly. They are already disturbed and will be even more angry and hurt if you try to be harsh with them. Explain to them that such things happen and offer other solutions to their problem. For example, if your child was expecting a friend over and he/she could not make it, your child might get upset. In that case, try to keep your child busy with some activity, if possible spend time with him/her. They might take out their anger on you but still react kindly. It pays to show wisdom on your part.

In dealing with children, the most important point worth noting is that they are new to experiences and circumstances, they do not realize what is the best way to behave, and it is up to you to help them. That is not possible unless you have a loving relationship with your child. Do not forget, your child needs nurturing no matter what kind of child he/she is.
